Spot the common mistake. Make the precise correction.
01Common mistake
Students often miss accents or place them incorrectly, which can change the meaning or grammatical function of a word, such as paso / pasó, esta / está, or si / sí.
How to solve it
Before finishing, check words such as también, más, está, sí and past-tense forms where the accent may distinguish the meaning.
Check the command word before you write.
02Common mistake
Students sometimes copy directly from a text in the first person when the question requires the third person, or they answer using the wrong tense.
How to solve it
Adapt pronouns and verb forms where necessary—for example, me gusta → le gusta—and make sure your tense matches whether the task refers to the past, present or future.
Check the command word before you write.
03Common mistake
Students often copy entire sentences from the passage, including unnecessary information that can make an otherwise correct answer unclear or incorrect.
How to solve it
A single word or short phrase is often safer than copying a whole sentence, as long as it contains all the required information.
Check the command word before you write.
04Common mistake
Students sometimes give irrelevant answers because they misunderstand the interrogative word being used, such as giving a place when the question asks ¿Cuándo?
How to solve it
Identify the question word before looking for the answer.
Check the command word before you write.
05Common mistake
Students often use ser and estar incorrectly, such as using ser for location or estar for characteristics that are normally expressed with ser.
