Examiner InsightsCambridge IGCSE Physics
Spot the common mistake. Make the precise correction.
01Common mistake
Students often begin calculations without converting values into the correct units, such as grams to kilograms, minutes to seconds or centimetres to metres. Unit prefixes such as milli (m), kilo (k) and mega (M) are also frequently misread.
How to solve it
Convert values into the required SI units first, pay close attention to prefixes, and always include the correct unit in your final answer.
Check the command word before you write.
02Common mistake
Students often treat mass and weight as the same quantity or forget to use the relationship (W = mg).
How to solve it
Use (W = mg), where (g) is the acceleration of free fall, and use the value specified in the question or syllabus, such as 9.8 N/kg
Check the command word before you write.
03Common mistake
Students often ignore direction when calculating changes in velocity or momentum, especially when an object rebounds or changes direction.
How to solve it
Then use change = final value − initial value, keeping the signs throughout the calculation.
Check the command word before you write.
04Common mistake
Students often connect voltmeters in series or ammeters in parallel, confuse circuit symbols, or mix up how current and potential difference behave in series and parallel circuits.
How to solve it
An ammeter is connected in series, while a voltmeter is connected in parallel across the component. Also remember that current is the same throughout a series circuit, while potential difference is the same across parallel branches.

No. Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) follows the same 2026–2028 syllabus, so the content, assessment structure and paper format remain the same in 2027. Resources designed for the 2026–2028 syllabus are therefore suitable for both years.
The most recent major update to Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625) took effect for the 2023 exam series. It introduced changes such as Space Physics, revised constants and units, and several topic additions and removals. The syllabus has remained broadly stable since then.
Check your school registration, student portal or Statement of Entry. Most students take Physics (0625), while schools using the 9–1 grading system may use 0972 instead. You should also confirm whether you are entered for the Core or Extended tier and make sure you are studying Cambridge rather than another exam board such as Edexcel.
Target your weak topics, review examiner insights, and improve your Cambridge IGCSE Physics grade.
