Spot the common mistake. Make the precise correction.
01Common mistake
Students sometimes present facts, statistics or background information and label them as a perspective. However, a perspective is a viewpoint, opinion or attitude held by a particular person or group.
How to solve it
Attribute viewpoints to specific organisations, groups or individuals, and explain what they think, believe or feel about the issue rather than simply describing what is happening.

02Common mistake
Students often identify strengths or weaknesses of a source without explaining why they matter, for example saying only that “the author is an expert” or “the source is outdated”.
“the author is an expert”

04Common mistake
Students sometimes state their final opinion without explaining how their thinking developed during the research process.
How to solve it
Compare what you thought at the beginning with your final view, and identify the specific evidence or perspectives that influenced your thinking

05Common mistake
Teams sometimes submit their research itself, such as interviews or collected information, as the final Outcome instead of creating something designed to achieve the team’s aim.
How to solve it
Your research should inform the Outcome, while the final product should communicate the different perspectives you investigated and help achieve your intended purpose.
