A photograph taken by police officer Colin Lynch, 9 August 1970. The photograph was taken during the march demonstrating against the police harassment of Frank Crichlow and the Mangrove Restaurant. PC Lynch had been asked by his commanding officer to attend the march and take photographs as a record of events.
From a speech made by Darcus Howe, 9 August 1970. Howe was a Black civil rights campaigner and a member of the British Black Panthers. Howe was outside the Mangrove Restaurant in Notting Hill, speaking to demonstrators.
